Bamboo Just Makes Sense

The Bamboo Source knows that processing bamboo into viscose via the patented Lyocell process still has opportunities, we believe the benefit of using renewable, sustainable bamboo as a resource remains compelling. We look forward to further research and manufacturer certifications programs to ensure compliance for a clean and fair work environment in the countries growing and processing bamboo.

Why Bamboo?

The bamboo fabric is as soft as silk or cashmere, retains its color and shape wash after wash, resists odors, and has a “wicking feature” which keeps the fabric from sticking to your skin.

Cost Effective

Caring for bamboo is easy and cost effective. Fewer washings are required using less energy. For longer life, wash bamboo fabrics in cold water and use low heat to dry. Over drying your bamboo fabric will cause “pilling”, (those little balls that form on fabric).

Thermo-regulating

You will stay 2 to 3 degrees cooler in hot weather and 2 to 3 degrees warmer in cold weather wearing bamboo. Perfect for babies or menopausal women

Naturally Awesome

Bamboo fabrics are naturally anti bacterial, antifungal and anti static. No more moldy smell in your kitchen from your cleaning cloths or on your bath towels.

The Great Outdoors

Eco and ergo friendly, bamboo provides UV protection, is biodegradable, breathable, cool, strong, flexible, and soft with a luxurious shiny appearance. Great for the biker, hiker or working outdoors.

Body Odor Proof

Bamboo fibers absorb and evaporate sweat quickly. Bamboo does not retain body odors or smells. You may smell, but your underwear and performance apparel won’t.

Long Lasting

Three to four times more absorbent than cotton, its unique breathability keeps the wearer more comfortable and dryer for longer periods of time. Extend the time of your activity.

Great for Everyone

Bamboo from viscose is a perfect comfortable fabric for every person in the house.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is bamboo good for the ground?

Bamboo plantations are typically on a hillside where little else will grow. Cultivation is done without irrigation, fertilizer and chemical pesticides. Growing bamboo improves the soil quality when neither fertilizer nor control chemicals are needed. Bamboo plants regenerate and grow as fast as 47 inches in a 24 hour period and after 7 years may be selectively harvested every year — compared to trees needing 30 to 50 years to mature.

Replanting is not necessary as it is with other crops, thereby reducing the carbon footprint even further. Because of its widespread root system and large canopy, bamboo greatly reduces rain run off and prevents soil erosion. Bamboo helps mitigate water pollution due to its high nitrogen consumption, making it a solution for excess nutrient uptake of waste water from manufacturing, livestock farming and sewage treatment.

Is bamboo good for the air?

Bamboo plantations are large factories for photosynthesis which reduce green house gases. Bamboo plants absorb about 5 times the amount of carbon dioxide, tolerate the extremes of drought and drowning, and generates 30% more oxygen than trees. Bamboo is considered a critical element in the balance between oxygen and carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Bamboo from viscose is a breakthrough fabric when you consider that conventional cotton uses more insecticides than any other single crop and epitomizes the worst effects of chemically dependent agriculture. The typical spraying application on cotton crops result in volatile organic compounds being released into the air and contributing to green house gases. Additionally such spraying harms the health of the soil and pollutes the ground water, lakes and streams

How is it better than cotton?

Bamboo plantations provide a means for impoverished villages to achieve economic security and out produces other products given the same footprint. It out produces cotton 10 times to 1. In other words, using the material grown from the same amount of space required to produce enough cotton for 10 tee shirts, 100 tee shirts could be made from bamboo.

What is the closed loop Lyocel process?

Raw bamboo pulp is mixed with a non toxic organic solvent solution. The organic compound isolates the cellulose leaving a thick mixture which is sent through a shower head like fixture (a spinneret) and rendered into a filament form. Throughout the lyocel process, 99% of the organic compound is recovered and recycled or re-used. Minimum water and energy are used in the processing of bamboo into fiber.
